China to provide satellite TV reception in Nigerian villages, and Others

As part of the digitisation of Nigeria and other African countries, China will provide Satellite television (TV) reception to 10,000 villages in the region in the next few years, as provided in the forum of China-Africa Cooperation.

The Vice-Chairman, Star Times Group, Ms Guo Zigi, who revealed this plan, said in the past seven years, the NTA-Star Time TV Network in Nigeria is currently visible in about 80 sites located in 34 states of the Federation, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

She added, “In Nigeria, Star-Times and Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) are in joint venture since Star Times began operation in Nigeria.”

Zigi also said: “China will consistently help many countries in Africa including Nigeria, to receive Satellite signal, which will connect Africa to the superhighway of global information.”

She made the remark at the weekend at the launching/donation of Satellite TV Reception Facilities to Hulumi village in the FCT, Abuja.

“Information is power, this power unfortunately, is mostly available to people living in urban areas, because most service providers concentrate their energies on providing these services to areas where they are most likely to make maximum profits. It is now our mission to enable every African family afford Digital TV and enjoy its beauty,” she noted.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman, Board of Directors, NTA-Star TV Network Ltd., Yakubu Ibin Mohammed, said: “Today, we are donating 20 sets of Direct to Home satellite TV Decoders; two sets of 32-inch Digital TV receivers, complete with solar power supply; one set of 32-inch Digital TV integrated with Digital Terrestrial as well as Digital Satellite Receivers to this community in FCT as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility.”

Mohammed explained that in the first phase of the project, five villages will benefit from the initiative, two in the FCT, two in Nassarawa, and one in Kwara State, adding that the facilities are also expected to reach out to more villages in the near future.

He promised that the NTA-Star Times will ensure full maintenance for the facilities free of charge for the next one year.
